The homeowner had previously engaged another plumber to install a new hot water tank. However, that plumber failed to install a compliant tempering valve, which is designed to limit hot water delivery to safe temperatures (typically 50°C for bathrooms, as required by AS/NZS 3500.4:2021).
Without this vital safety device, the water temperature at the outlet was significantly higher — capable of causing third-degree burns in a matter of seconds. The consequences were life-altering for the homeowner and entirely avoidable.
